Panaji: The organization ‘Surajya Abhiyan’, a branch of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, has appealed through a memorandum to Dy. Director (North) of the Department of Transport Mr. B.A.Sawant to regulate ticket fares of private passenger transport buses during coming summer vacations. At this time delegation of ‘Surajya Abhiyan’ comprises Shushant Dalvi, Mihir Dalvi and Mr. Deelip Shetye.
The Memorandum further says that due to the increase in demand after school summer vacations, the fares of passenger buses are hiked to double or more than regular fares. This causes a financial burden to the passengers. The Maharashtra government has issued a ‘GR’ recently to control the ticket prices of buses carrying passengers in the state of Maharashtra. According to this, private bus operators can charge more than one and a half times the ticket price of state government buses. Similarly, the Goa government should immediately issue an order to regulate ticket fares of private passenger buses.
Shut down 18 illegal travel apps like ‘Make Kay Trip’?
On 6th March 2024, the Pune Regional Transport Authority issued a notice to shut down a total of 18 private passenger apps like ‘Make My Trip’, ‘Red Bus’, ‘Goibibo’, and ‘Swari’, which are operating as illegal ‘aggregator apps’ without obtaining permission from the central government to carry out the business of passenger transport. This action has been after repeated follow-ups, protests and complaints made by ‘Surajya Abhiyaan’ to the government for the last 4 years. ‘Surajya Abhiyan’ demands to take action against illegal aggregator Apps. Also, the transport department should publish a ‘helpline’ number for registering complaints regarding passenger traffic.
