PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said Goa’s mining sector is witnessing steady revival, with the government focusing on sustainable and responsible practices alongside economic growth.
The Chief Minister stated that 18 mineral blocks have already been auctioned, with an estimated production capacity of 19 million tonnes per annum (MTPA). According to him, the revival of mining activities has positively impacted employment opportunities, transportation services and port-related business across the State.
Sawant said the government’s next priority is to ensure greater value addition within the mining sector while promoting scientific utilisation of low-grade ore dumps. He also stressed the importance of adopting sustainable transportation systems, mechanised material handling and stronger environmental safeguards.
Highlighting Goa’s ecological sensitivity, the Chief Minister said mining activities must progress in a balanced and responsible manner without affecting the State’s environment and tourism potential. He added that the government is committed to ensuring that economic development and environmental protection go hand in hand.
