CANACONA: Various organisations and institutioins celebrated Gandhi Jayanti with Swtachata Hi Seva holding Cleanliness Drives in Canacona.
Agonda Sarpanch Preetal Fernandes stated Gandhi Jayanti is a reminder that even the smallest actions can bring about a great change, took herself part in cleanliness drives held in all the Seven Wards of the Panchayat. Besides students of Shri Shradhanand Vidyalaya, Poinguinim held Street plays in different parts of Agonda village to make the people aware about the rising issues due to garbage.
Canacona Muncipal Council (CMC) Chairperson Ramakant Naikgaunkar in coordination with the Community Health Centre (CHC), Canacona led his entire municipal team and Health workers at world acclaimed Pallolem beach on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti ( 2/10/23).
Swatchta hi Seva is one of the important message passed on by the ethics of non-violence practiced by Mahatma Gandhi, and it is our obligation to maintain cleanliness all around us. Let’s follow the path of truth and compassion’, stated CMC Chairperson Ramakant Naikgaunkar.
Garlanding of portraits of Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on their Birth anniversaries were held in various institutions, and later organised Cleanliness drives in their vicinities all over Canacona taluka.
Oaths on Cleanliness were also taken on the occasion to maintain one’s own surrounding clean and tidy, and will not litter the garbage in open.
Meanwhile the presence of vegetable waste outside the Municipal Vegetable market at Chaudi on the Swatchta Din irked residents with some people questioning the municipality for lack of concern atleast on the day.
In a social post AAP Spokesperson Sandesh Telekar said, ‘On this auspicious occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Salute to the Swachhta Mission of our Municipality’, posting a picture the strewn waste.
