MOIRA: A nine-day summer football camp aimed at promoting grassroots sports and youth development began in Moira, bringing together young participants from across the Aldona constituency. The initiative, conducted by Kick Off Football Schools in partnership with PACT Foundation and supported by A.A. de Moira Club, will run from May 1 to May 10.
The camp has been made accessible to all children at no cost, reflecting a strong focus on inclusivity and equal opportunity. Designed as an intensive training programme, it seeks to combine football coaching with life skills development, offering participants a platform to grow both on and off the field.
The inaugural session was attended by several key figures, including Anisha Fernandes of PACT Foundation, Oscar Lobo of A.A. de Moira Club, Marc Cordeiro, Shriya Shetgaunkar, Andrea Fernandes, and head coach Jonas Fernandes.
Addressing the young participants, Anisha Fernandes highlighted the cultural significance of football in Goa and stressed the importance of preserving and nurturing this legacy. She emphasised that the initiative is rooted in the belief that every child deserves access to opportunities regardless of their background, adding that dedication, passion, and effort should define a child’s future.
She also encouraged the participants to focus not only on technical skills such as passing, defending, and scoring, but also on discipline, teamwork, and resilience, which are essential for personal growth.
Oscar Lobo expressed appreciation for the support extended by the organisers and sponsors, urging children to attend regularly and make the most of the sessions while enjoying the game.
As part of the camp, a special session on nutrition and wellness was conducted, where participants received guidance on maintaining a healthy diet to enhance physical performance and overall well-being.
The initiative reflects a broader vision to empower youth through education, sports, and community-driven programmes, fostering a more inclusive and progressive environment for the next generation.
