PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has yet again reaffirmed his support for the Tamnar power project, stating that Goans need to support initiatives that generate green jobs.
“The Tamnar project should be completed by October of this year; only three transmission towers remain to be completed,” said Sawant while speaking on the sidelines of a government event.
Sawant further stated that he has previously advised residents in his constituency not to oppose the project, adding that the Tamnar project will help Goa survive in the event of a grid failure.
Sawant said that his government fully supported the two projects, both of which were entirely green. He declared, “They have the full backing of the government and are 100 per cent green.”
One of the three linear projects passing through sections of Goa’s and Karnataka’s forested and protected areas, the Tamnar transmission line ran into rough weather with stiff opposition from greens and also Karnataka’s government causing the delay.
Within Goa, the project envisions a 220 KV transmission line between Xeldem and Mapusa.
Additionally, the project’s long-term goal is to have an additional 1000 MW power source for Goa drawn from the Raigarh power station with a 440 KV line drawn through two states – Chhattisgarh and Karnataka.
