VASCO: Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho announced that he wanted to provide 50 percent direct relief to taxi operators who would install taxi meters.
Godinho said that he has spoken to the CM and is also trying to move a file.
“We have fallen short of finance, and hence we could not start work of Transport Bhavan. We got electrical buses. The next challenge is to fix stations to charge the buses electrically. We are setting up these stations and getting around 200 more electrical buses. We are also fixing digital meters for taxis because there were complaints of people being overcharged,” he aid.
He said that the counter at Airport is being transferred and will ensure that yellow black taxis get two counters at Airport.
“We ensured that they did not have to pay road taxes and other charges amidst the pandemic, and now we are offering subsidies to the taxi operators of which 50 percent will come in first three weeks and final subsidy will come at the end of the year,” he said.
He announced that he has discussed with CM and moved a file to try to give a 50 p.c rebate for digital meters.
“I want to do it in such a way that the taxi operators will have to pay nothing while fixing the meters and the remaining 50 percent will be given at the end of the year,” said Godinho.
