PANAJI: Calangute MLA Michael Lobo said that Town & Country Planning Act and Panchayat Act need to be amended in the monsoon session of the assembly to facilitate setting up of beach shacks in the next tourist season.

He further said that the process of granting of various permissions should be streamlined, he added.
Lobo also called for timely release of the New Shack Policy to avoid inconvenience in setting up the shacks.
MLA Michael Lobo said outsiders need to teach Goans how to build and run shacks.
“Tourism Dept should come out with good policies. Shack is our traditional business, and it should be with Goans only,’ he added.
He alleged that some people with black coats met him, not to oppose Model Shack policy.
The North Goa Collector has formed as many as eight teams to execute closure order of as many as 161 shacks as per the directions of the High Court even as many operators have now applied to the GSPCB for valid consent to operate e as required under the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution Act, 1974 and Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution Act, 1981
