MOPA: Goa Taxi operators have vehemently opposed a sudden and substantial increase in parking costs at the GMR-managed Mopa Airport.
Overnight, the prices increased from Rs. 80 to Rs. 200, and the pickup charges went from Rs. 200 to Rs. 250.
The heavy police force has been deployed at the main gate of the Manohar International Airport to keep away from any untoward incident.
Protesting taxi operators met with Pravin Arlekar, the MLA for Pernem, to voice their worries about the impact of these rate increases.
“There were already a lot of problems, and now that parking is more expensive, it seems like GMR is trying to hurt Goan taxi companies,” said one taxi operator. There’s concern that they could raise the costs to Rs. 500, which would have a negative impact on us.” Said Arlekar.
Operators worry that GMR may attract non-Goan operators, endangering neighbourhood companies even more.
Operators further voiced worries regarding taxi meters and claimed that After commission reductions, their earnings are negligible.
“We were forced to install taxi after we were accused of overcharging.” meters, but they serve no purpose for us. The individuals the counters immediately deduct their commission from our profits,” the cab driver stated.
After consulting with taxi drivers, MLA Arlekar promised to present the issue before Chief Minister Pramod.
This follows up on a prior meeting whereby cab operators brought up grievances with CM Sawant Goa Miles Taxi, which was intended to function through an app, however it presently runs on counters.
