Chandor: Thousands of people gathered at Chandor in South Goa to show their support to the agitation against the double tracking of railway line from Collem to Vasco.
The South Western Railway were scheduled to carry out works at the level crossing at Chandor for double tracking but the workers and officials did not turn up seeing the sea of people.
Thousands started their march from Chandor Church and marched towards the railway crossing and sat on the tracking till the wee hours of the morning.
Congress, Aam Aadmi Party and Goa Forward also participated in the agitation.
Captain Viriato Fernandes of Goencho Ekvott said that the government must now understand that the people will not allow coal.
“We do not want Goa to become a coal hub,” he said..
Abhijit Prabhudesi of Goencho Kolso Naka said by sitting on the tracks here, we want to tell the government that we are vehemently opposed to the projects of double tracking.
“We will prove to the government that we are not approving its plan to make Goa a coal hub,” he said.
