PANAJI: The three time corporator Menino De cruz from Panaji on Saturday joined Congress party, by resigning from BJP, along with his supporters and vowed to make the party strong in the capital city.
The President of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee Girish Chodankar welcomed De cruz and his supporters in the presence of Panjim block Convenor Joel Andrade, James Andrade, District president Vijay Bhike, and NSUI leader Naushad.
Joel Andrade said that he is trying his best to rebuild the Congress party in Panaji with the support of Congress leaders and supporters from Panaji. “We are focusing on rebuilding the party.”He said.
Speaking on the occasion, Girish Chodankar said that after Antansio (Babush) Monserrate ditched Congress party by joining BJP, Congress wanted to reconstitute the team in Panaji. “He also took our Block members along with him. So we decided to reconstitute the team and now many people are joining us after they came to know that Babush betrayed them by joining BJP.” Chodankar said.
“We are getting good support for our drive ‘join Congress’. We will completely rebuild the Congress party in Panaji and will make it strong. We are making sincere efforts to strengthen Congress in Panjim” Chodankar said.
De cruz said that the downfall of BJP has started from last assembly election and further it will be nowhere. “When I had joined in 2006, I helped them to build the party. But now the downfall of BJP has started. I resigned from BJP for self respect after working for over 15 years. They should remember that usurping power by horse trading is not real victory.” Dcruz said.
“I will try to work to grow Panaji city and also our Congress party.” He said.
He said that some former corporators would be joining Congress in future.
He reiterated that leaving BJP was only for self respect as they are ignoring workers like me.
While replying to a question he said that he is 100% sure that next Panjim MLA will be of Congress party, we need to work hard to get another 3000 votes which is not difficult task. While replying another question he said he has not joined to get MLA ticket, my task is to defeat betrayal Babush Monsorrate in coming elections.
