VASCO: Three-way fight in the Mormugao constituency is possible this assembly election with Aam Aadmi Party, Congress and BJP candidates are claiming to have worked for the people taking up civic issues and helping people during the Covid19 pandemic.
Mormugao constituency, which houses Mormugao Port Trust and other vital storage installations, the residential quarters of the central government employees, has witnessed dynamic politics.
With door to door campaigning ongoing in full swing, supporters of AAP, Congress Party and BJP are seen busy in the door to door campaigning. After the recent tint of an alleged sex scandal, BJP’s candidate Milind Naik has been seen going door to door meeting people and asking for their votes for the fourth time.
It is quite certain that there is an anti-incumbency among the people against the BJP and the candidate, which has remained engulfed in controversies throughout his tenure. But Mormugao being a strong base of BJP, some people will vote based on party and not for the candidate.
On the other hand, Congress party leader Sankalp Amonkar has been moving around seeking votes from the people, promising positive change. During his campaigning recently, he said that the BJPs double engine government has failed and only Congress can bring the acche din to people.
Umesh Mandrekar, a Congress supporter, said that the people of Mormugao will vote for Sankalp as he has taken up various issues from the constituency and has exposed several misdeeds.
Pooja Tilaskar, who has been active in the Congress Mahila group, said they are receiving good responses from the households during the D2D campaigning in the Sada area. Chances are high that people will vote for a clean candidate this time. Youth needs jobs, good facilities and good governance,” she added.
AAP candidate Parshuram Sonurlekar is an underdog who came from a humble background as a social activist taking up various issues such as coal pollution, Nu Shi Nalini, a stranded vessel with slug, snd many more which shook the entire Goa. He has been actively involved in raising various civic issues and helping local people in getting their documents related works and other works done.
AAP looking at his work, chose him as their candidate. He has slowly garnered the support of the Mormugao constituency people.
Gopinath K. a local from the Jetty area, said that AAP’s vision and schemes promised to the people are very good. Looking at these positive things and AAP’s work, most people will vote for AAP.
Part, another local from Sada, said people will vote for change as they are fed up with the BJP. People should give one chance to the AAP and see what good things they could deliver to the Goans.
