MARGAO: A three-year-old boy from Navelim, who had been undergoing treatment after a drowning incident, passed away at Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim, on Wednesday.
According to police, the child, identified as Abhishek Malik, a resident of Navelim, was admitted to GMC after being referred from the South Goa District Hospital following a drowning incident near Navelim, Margao.
Margao Town Police received a wireless message from the casualty department at GMC about the child’s death on November 5. Police then conducted an inquest panchanama at the hospital, and the body was sent for autopsy.
The police surgeon later certified that the cause of death was “aspiration pneumonitis as a delayed sequel of near drowning.”
After the post-mortem examination, the body was handed over to the family members for final rites. The enquiry is being conducted by PSI Shubham Gaunkar of the Margao Town Police Station.
