New Delhi: Former West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee has launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party, accusing it of targeting her and senior party leaders while asserting that she will not be intimidated despite the growing political crisis within the TMC.
In a video message, Banerjee alleged that the BJP had systematically attempted to weaken her party by targeting prominent leaders, including Abhishek Banerjee, Mahua Moitra and Kalyan Banerjee. Declaring that she would continue to speak out, she said the only way to silence her would be to kill her. She also claimed that her residence had been targeted and accused the BJP of trying to intimidate the party through sustained political pressure.
Banerjee also congratulated party workers and leaders who remained loyal to the Trinamool Congress despite recent political developments. In an apparent reference to those who left the party, she extended her best wishes to members who, according to her, chose not to defect to the BJP.
Questioning the outcome of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly election, Banerjee alleged that the BJP secured power through electoral manipulation and irregularities during the Special Intensive Revision process. She further claimed that central forces were used to take control of counting centres, alleging that the electoral process had been compromised. Despite these allegations, she said the TMC allowed the newly elected government to assume office while maintaining that evidence supporting its claims would emerge in due course.
Her remarks come as the Trinamool Congress faces one of its biggest internal challenges following its heavy defeat in the Assembly elections. The party has witnessed a series of high profile defections in both the state Assembly and Parliament, with several leaders citing differences over the party’s leadership and alleging corruption within the organisation.
The latest setback came when Rajya Sabha MPs Sukhendu Shekhar Ray, Sushmita Dev and Prakash Chik Baraik joined the BJP after resigning from the TMC. Soon after joining the party, the three leaders were announced as BJP candidates for the Rajya Sabha bypolls scheduled to be held on July 24, further intensifying the political battle in West Bengal.
