New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India is preparing to introduce stricter guidelines in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League following a string of incidents that reportedly raised concerns within the board over discipline, security and anti corruption protocols.
The new measures are expected to strengthen access control around players and team environments, including hotels, dressing rooms, buses and other designated secure areas used during the tournament. The move comes after several reported cases involving unauthorised interactions and breaches of tournament regulations.
Senior officials within the BCCI have indicated that the board has been compelled to act after witnessing multiple incidents during the current IPL season that were viewed as inappropriate and potentially damaging to the league’s integrity framework. Discussions are currently underway with franchise teams to ensure stricter compliance and prevent further violations.
BCCI vice president Rajeev Shukla recently confirmed that new regulations are being framed to monitor and restrict access to players. The proposed guidelines aim to prevent unauthorised individuals from meeting players in hotels, team buses and other protected zones during the tournament.
The issue has also drawn concern from BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, who highlighted several irregularities involving players, franchise officials and outsiders. According to the board, certain individuals were seen accompanying team members into restricted areas, including player rooms and official spaces, which directly violated the IPL’s anti corruption protocols.
Officials also observed interactions between franchise representatives and players in areas where such meetings are prohibited under tournament regulations.
The ongoing IPL season has already seen disciplinary action in a number of cases. Riyan Parag, captain of Rajasthan Royals, was fined 25 percent of his match fee and handed a demerit point after being caught vaping inside the dressing room during a match against Punjab Kings.
In another incident, Rajasthan Royals manager Ravinder Singh Bhinder was fined Rs 1 lakh for allegedly using a mobile phone near the dugout during a match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Guwahati.
The BCCI is now expected to roll out the revised guidelines in an effort to reinforce discipline, maintain transparency and safeguard the integrity of the tournament for the remainder of the season.
