PANAJI: In line with its vision of ‘Transforming Communities’,Vedanta Sesa Goa in collaboration with Vedanta Foundation, has set up a Village Computer Centre in Haldanwadi, Maem, Goa.
The computer centre has been established with the objective of fostering skill development among the youth and empowering them through digital literacy.
This is the ninth such computer training centre to be established by Vedanta Sesa Goa, of which four are in Goa State.
The Village Computer Centre was inaugurated at Haldanwadi, Maem, by Premendra Shet, MLA for Maem Constituency, in the presence of Ms. Suvarna Chodankar, Sarpanch, Maem, Shri Krishna Chodankar, Panch, Maem, and Vedanta Sesa Goa officials including Dhiraj Kumar Jagish, Deputy CEO-IOG & Shri. Santosh Mandrekar, Head-North & Central Cluster and numerous attendees from within the Maem community.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Premendra Shet, MLA for Maem Constituency, said, “The setting up of the Computer Training Centre, will positively impact the lives of thousands of youths, residing in nearby communities. I thank Vedanta Sesa Goa for this gesture as this will certainly open new avenues for the youth &improve their prospects in life. Initiatives like these, will empower the youth and foster meaningful skill development among them. The youth will be encouraged to showcase their talents, in innovative ways and will help them exercise their full potential in terms of technical brilliance, contributing to the overall progress of their families, communities and our country in the times to come.”, he added.
Dhirajkumar Jagdish, Deputy CEO, IOG, Vedanta Sesa Goa said “The establishment of the Computer Centre at Maem, in collaboration with the Vedanta Foundation, is in line with our philosophy of ‘transforming communities’ through the medium of education. With this initiative, we aim to ‘give back’ to the communities that we operate in. The progress of our country directly goes hand in hand with the progress of its youth. We, at Vedanta, want to be the wind under their wings, helping them scale new heights by providing them with all facilities and platforms that they require, to make immense and unparalleled progress in their lives.”

The computer centre that has been set up is intended to equip the youth with computer training skills through a six month long technical course. In the first three months of the course, the students would be imparted with basic knowledge of computers and would be taught to use software such as Microsoft Office, whereas, the subsequent three months of the course would equip the students with advanced knowledge of computers. The Computer Training course has been specially designed keeping the youth in mind and around 120 students will be trained annually in the Computer Centre.
Vedanta Sesa Goa has undertaken numerous projects for the benefit of the youth and to encourage skill development amongst them. It has been Sesa Goa’s endeavour to contribute to the promotion of sustainable economic growth and improvement of access to quality education for reducing poverty and promoting the overall socio-economic development of rural India. Hence, strengthening the efforts to create job opportunities, promote entrepreneurship, and ensure access to education, Sesa Goa instituted two flagship initiatives to make the communities they operate in more prosperous and equitable. The Sesa Technical School (STS) offers vocational training to empower local youth with skills in trades like Machinist, Fitter, Electrician, and Instrument Mechanic, creating opportunities for decent work and economic growth in the region. Similarly, the Sesa Football Academy (SFA) nurtures young football talents with comprehensive training, which not only helps them develop their sporting abilities but also provides opportunities for career growth in the field of sports.
