PANAJI: A team from the Crime Branch of Goa police is investigating defamatory videos about the Goa government circulating on social media.
The team is in Delhi after visiting Haryana to track down those responsible for creating and sharing the videos, which allege corruption.
Even as movies purportedly defaming the Goa administration have appeared on social media, a team from the Goa police’s Crime Branch is currently in Delhi as part of an initial investigation into the topic of these videos being uploaded on different social media platforms.
The police claim that the people behind the creation and distribution of the movies appear to be defamatory. A team headed by a police sub-inspector had visited Haryana and had now arrived in the nation’s capital to find them.
Some said that several films showing the state government’s extravagant expenditure of monies on alleged corruption-related events had appeared on social media.
According to the sources, some of the films also mentioned government policies and the renewal of contracts that purportedly connected them to corruption.
Goa’s Minister of Tourism Rohan Khaunte had stated last year that some were trying to use social media influencers to malign the state of Goa.
The government was thinking of taking legal action against social media influencers who were disparaging Goa on these platforms, according to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant. Sawant had stated that inquiries into such cases would be referred to cyber crime police.
