PANAJI: Panaji police have arrested two persons in Nashik, Maharashtra, in connection with the murder of a 30-year-old labourer whose body was found behind Kala Academy in Panaji.
The deceased has been identified as Jumma Dhobi, son of Sahid Dhobi, a native of Bihar who was residing at Dattagarth, Ponda. He was engaged in cleaning work at a temporary shed being erected for a Consumer Shopee exhibition at Darya Sangam, Kala Academy, Campal.
According to police, a call was received from the Police Control Room at 6.57 am on October 16, 2026, reporting that a person was lying in a pool of blood near the temporary shed.
Upon reaching the spot, police found the victim lying face down with injuries to his head. Blood was found on a white wooden laminate sheet being used for the construction of the temporary shed.
During the preliminary inquiry, police questioned contractor Jagdishkumar Ranka, a resident of Mumbai, who informed them that three labourers from Goa had been engaged for cleaning work at the site.
The inquiry raised strong suspicion that two fellow labourers had allegedly murdered Dhobi using a sharp and heavy weapon, striking him on the head.
Scientific experts and the dog squad were deployed to assist in collecting evidence from the scene. The deceased’s body was subsequently referred for a post-mortem examination.
Police registered FIR No. 177/2026 under Section 103 read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Teams were formed and dispatched to various locations to trace the suspected accused.
The two suspects have since been arrested in Nashik, and further investigation into the case is underway.
