PANAJI: The managing committee of the Goa Cricket Association (GCA) on Friday rejected allegations that it was responsible for a Rs 50-crore accounting mismatch flagged in an audit report, blaming the previous managing committee for making unfounded allegations.
Addressing a press conference, GCA president and former Ranji player Mahesh Dessai, vice-president Paresh Phadte, secretary Tulshidas Shetye and treasurer Abdul Majid said the present committee was in office for only three months during the period covered by the audit.
“The period covered by the audit is between April 2024 and March 2025 and April 2025 to December 2025. The new managing committee was in charge for just three months of the above period. The election was held on September 16 and we entered the office on October 1,” Majid said.
The GCA election was held on September 16, 2025, with the present managing committee winning 6-0 against its rivals. The committee alleged that those defeated in the election had raised the Rs 50-crore scam allegations.
Majid said the committee had spent Rs 15.86 crore during its three-month tenure, including salaries, travel and accommodation expenses, in accordance with BCCI norms. He also claimed that development work that had not taken place in 20 years had been completed within a year.
“We can show you each and every record. But we can’t explain what happened during the tenure of the previous committee,” he said.
The managing committee said the matter was pending before the High Court and was scheduled to be heard on November 30, when its advocate would respond to the allegations made by the previous committee.
The present committee further stated that if the alleged scam was established before the court, it would pursue action against individuals from the previous managing committee to recover the money allegedly misappropriated.
“If we have done a scam, let them prove it? Or ask us and we will show you that we have not done it,” Majid added.
