CANACONA: A motorcyclist sustained head injuries after two large trees crashed onto the Canacona–Agonda road at Devabhaga on Monday morning, disrupting traffic for more than an hour.
According to reports, a huge banyan tree fell onto the road at around 10 a.m., bringing down a large mango tree standing beside it. The falling trees trapped a motorcycle that was travelling towards Agonda.
The rider, reportedly a migrant labourer from Karnataka residing in Canacona, suffered head injuries in the incident and was immediately shifted to the Community Health Centre (CHC), Canacona, for treatment. The motorcycle bore Karnataka registration number KA17 HE5798.
The incident led to the complete blockage of the MDR-49 road, forcing authorities to divert traffic bound to and from Agonda via NH-66 through Char-Rasta, Keri internal road and the Devabhaga Football Ground route.
Canacona Police reached the spot and managed traffic while personnel from the Fire and Emergency Services undertook the removal of the fallen banyan and mango trees. After the trees were cut and cleared from the roadway near the Old Dhavalikar Hospital at Devabhaga, normal traffic movement on MDR-49 resumed by the afternoon.
