MARGAO: An unidentified man, believed to be in his early fifties, was killed after being struck by a moving train on the Margao–Chandor railway section late on Tuesday night.
According to police, the body was found lying beside the railway track with severe injuries. Railway authorities alerted the Vasco Railway Police at around 11.55 pm, following which officers rushed to the scene and conducted an inquest panchanama.
The body was later shifted to the South Goa District Hospital, Margao, for post-mortem examination and other medico-legal formalities.
During the preliminary inquiry, police estimated the deceased to be between 52 and 55 years of age. However, his identity had not been established at the time of filing this report.
Initial investigations indicate that the man may have been hit by a running train while walking along or attempting to cross the railway track. However, the exact circumstances leading to the incident are yet to be ascertained.
Vasco Railway Police have registered a case of unnatural death under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Krishna Talpi of Vasco Railway Police Station under the supervision of PI Amarnath Passi and the guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
