VASCO: Traffic Cell Vasco to crack a whip on the rent a cab, bikes, scooters parked in the parking space for the ordinary people to park. City Councillor assured to take up this issue in the Mormugao municipal council meeting.
People from Port town are fed up with searching a parking place for their two-wheelers and four-wheelers when the rent bike operators choose to occupy the entire parking area stretch to park their business bikes, thereby depriving the common people of parking.
Paras, a visitor desperately searching for space to park his bike in the scorching heat on Wednesday, started cursing the rent bike operators and the local municipality for messing with the proper parking from the town. He said that why local governing bodies are needed when they cannot properly manage things from their jurisdiction.
One more girl named Shipra Mokashi said it is a daily problem in Vasco. Bikes, and cars are parked haphazardly everywhere. “I heard the municipality was supposed to do pay parking and mark the place for parking, but there is no sign of these things on the ground,” she said.
When contacted the City Councillor Shami Salkar about this issue, she said that several times the parking issue was raised by her and by her husband, who was former City Councillor Daji Salkar, during a municipal council meeting, but nothing has happened about it.
She said that the issue is serious and needs to be addressed holistically. Shami assured to take up this issue in the upcoming municipal council meeting and other traffic-related problems and expect a solution.
Further, when asked DySP traffic Sudesh Narvekar said that in the past, Vasco traffic cell started taking action against the rent bike operators for occupying the parking space meant for common people. For the time being, the rent bike operators stopped occupying the parking space, but the issue has cropped up. “I will give the Vasco traffic Police Inspector instructions to take action on these people who unnecessarily occupy the parking space by parking their rent bikes depriving others of parking,” he said.
