VASCO: Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar on Friday inaugurated the underground cabling works along FL Gomes Road. The event was attended by Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Girish Borker, city ward councillor Shami Salkar, and other dignitaries.
Addressing the media, MLA Salkar stated that the entire Vasco constituency is being taken up for underground cabling, starting with the city area due to its prominence as a hub for visitors.
“We began these works in the city because it is the main area where people visit frequently. So far, we have successfully completed underground cabling along Swatantrata Path and commissioned it. The cabling from Thakker House to the IOC junction has also been completed. The works along the internal road of Fr. Joseph Vaz are expected to be completed and commissioned within a month,” said Salkar.
He further informed that the ongoing works along FL Gomes Road, undertaken at a cost of ₹6 crore, are expected to be completed within three months. “We aim to complete all underground cabling in the city before the monsoons,” he added.
The underground cabling project for Vasco constituency is estimated to cost ₹100 crore and is expected to significantly improve power supply while enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the city.
In addition, Salkar revealed plans for a separate ₹20 crore project to shift low-tension (LT) and high-tension (HT) wires underground. “Both LT and HT lines will be included as part of the underground cabling project,” he confirmed.
This initiative is anticipated to transform Vasco into a cleaner and more efficient city, setting a benchmark for infrastructural development in the region.
