VASCO: On Thursday morning, Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar, MMC Chairperson Girish Borkar, and GAMMON India officials inspected the ongoing construction of the up-ramp near the IOC junction. Speaking to reporters, MLA Salkar revealed that the project is nearly 90% complete and expressed satisfaction with the progress.
“When the project was launched, several people raised objections and predicted it would be a disaster. However, today, as I arrived here, I see broad roads below the ramp, and the project is almost 90% complete,” said Salkar.
“This up-ramp will provide a new exit from Vasco and significantly decongest the city’s traffic. People wanting to leave the city can use this up-ramp, which connects Vasco to the four-lane port connectivity flyover. There’s no longer a need for a long detour via Chicalim.”
Salkar also praised GAMMON India for their work, noting, “We are thankful to GAMMON India for providing 6-meter service roads on either side of the ramp. Besides the up-ramp, we’ve built gutters to ensure smooth rainwater flow. Many other projects are simultaneously underway, promising a total revamp for Vasco city.”
MMC Chairperson Girish Borkar added that the service roads below the ramp would be opened temporarily ahead of the upcoming Damodar Saptah festival.
“We plan to open the service roads during the Saptah festival. Last year, shifting furniture stalls to the Tanya open space caused inconvenience to residents. This year, the stalls will return to their usual locations once the road opens temporarily. As we celebrate the 125th year of the Damodar Bhajani Saptah festival, we aim to ensure that residents and devotees are not inconvenienced. We are thankful to GAMMON India for accommodating our request.”
Vasco traffic PI Shailesh Narvekar, also present at the inspection, stated, “All options will be studied before allowing traffic to move along the service roads to ensure safety and smooth flow.”
