SIRSAIM: In the aftermath of the tragic drowning of police constable Akash Naik, a group of concerned villagers from Sirsaim visited the site of the incident, only to uncover a shocking detail that has intensified public outrage.
Led by residents Vidhyadhar A. Bhagat, Hemant M. Kambli, Manoj Haldankar, Zean Dias, Atmaram Kalnekar, and Sagun Vernekar, the villagers inspected the area and discovered that the so-called “pool of water” was, in fact, an abandoned construction pit. The pit, measuring an estimated 10 to 12 meters in depth, had been left unsecured and unmarked—posing a serious risk to public safety.
This revelation has sparked concern within the Sirsaim community, which is now demanding swift intervention from authorities. The villagers have urged the local administration to take immediate measures to seal the pit and install clear warning signage to alert passersby of the potential danger.
Residents have warned that without prompt action, the site could pose a threat to others, particularly children and unaware visitors to the area.
The tragic death of Constable Naik has not only left the police force and his family in mourning but has also highlighted the dangers posed by unattended and unregulated construction activity in the region.
