New Delhi: The conflict between the United States and Iran intensified for the sixth consecutive night as American forces expanded their air campaign, striking key infrastructure across southern Iran, including bridges, an airport, railway facilities and other strategic locations. The latest wave of attacks reportedly killed at least seven people in Hormozgan province and caused widespread damage to transportation and utility networks.
The airstrikes targeted several coastal cities and islands, including Ahvaz, Qeshm, Bushehr, Dashti, Bostan, Sirik and Bandar-e-Lengeh. Three bridges near Bandar-e-Khamir were hit, while the Tapeh Allah Akbar neighbourhood in Bandar Abbas also came under attack. An airport in Iranshahr sustained damage, resulting in temporary power outages, while Kish Island experienced disruptions to electricity after the strikes.
The US military said the overnight operation targeted dozens of Iranian military positions, including coastal surveillance systems, air defence installations, logistics infrastructure and maritime assets. American officials added that more than 50,000 US personnel remain deployed across the Middle East and are prepared for further operations if required.
Iran responded by launching missiles and drones at US military installations and allied countries in the region. Missile attacks were reported against American bases in neighbouring countries, including Jordan, while Qatar issued public safety alerts urging residents to seek shelter after incoming missiles targeted the country. Earlier retaliatory strikes had also targeted Bahrain and Kuwait.
The renewed escalation follows the collapse of the temporary ceasefire reached last month. Fighting has increasingly centred on control of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global energy route that Iran has vowed to defend. Tehran has warned that any further attacks on its infrastructure could trigger broader retaliation across the region.
Iranian officials said American strikes have killed more than 40 people and injured over 300 since the conflict resumed, with Friday’s attacks adding to the casualty count. The continued exchange of strikes has heightened fears of a wider regional conflict while increasing uncertainty over global energy supplies and maritime security.
