No drug case booked or come to notice in any school or college across state: Sawant

PORVORIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today said that said police is steadfast in its commitment towards ”zero tolerance policy” against narcotics.
“Police is steadfast in its commitment towards ”zero tolerance policy” against narcotics. citizens and authorities must unite to raise awareness and combat the global menace,” said Sawant
Sawant said that there are identifiable hot spots in State for drug related activities.
“However, there is more incidence of drug cases in coastal areas where there is influx of tourists and accordingly the number of cases booked is on higher side in such areas. To curb this tendency, District Police, ANC & Crime Branch keep surveillance in coastal areas,” he added
He further said that the Goa police remains steadfast in its commitment to a zero tolerance policy against illegal drugs, implementing precautionary and remedial measures to curb drug trafficking within the state.
Sawant said that through stringent actions against both peddlers and users, the prevalence of drug-related offences has significantly reduced.
CM said that being an iconic tourist destination, Goa is prone to use of recreational drugs by tourists like any other tourist destination.
“Goa Police is alive to such possibility and many drug cases have been booked in villages. However, no drug case has been booked or come to notice in any school or college in the State,” he added
Meanwhile, Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas said that Weed is new need of youngsters.
“Drugs have reached colleges and even Schools. FDA needs to act strictly on pastry shops for weed cake & marijuana brownie. We need to promote No Drugs advertisement on all Govt. websites,” he added.
