New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on the Samajwadi Party and the Indian National Congress, accusing them of selectively targeting Hindu faith while remaining silent on issues related to Waqf properties.
Addressing a public gathering in Pratapgarh, the Chief Minister questioned the Opposition’s stance on Waqf matters, asking why their “mouths are sealed with Fevicol” whenever the issue is raised. He alleged that the parties were unhappy because the site where the Babri structure once stood is now home to the Ram Mandir.
Yogi also compared the Opposition to a chameleon, claiming that both parties frequently change their positions according to political convenience. He said the Samajwadi Party and Congress no longer had new political issues and were relying on caste based politics and criticism of matters related to faith.
The Chief Minister further alleged that the Opposition had opposed the transformation of Ayodhya and was uncomfortable with the city’s improved infrastructure, including better roads, railway connectivity and enhanced facilities for devotees. He questioned their recent statements on Ayodhya, saying the parties had previously supported the Babri structure but were now claiming that faith was being insulted.
Raising the issue of Waqf properties, Yogi alleged that thousands of hectares of land belonging to poor and weaker sections had been sold in the name of Waqf. He asserted that the state government would continue taking action wherever evidence of wrongdoing was found.
The Chief Minister made these remarks while inaugurating and laying the foundation stone for 111 development projects worth more than ₹384 crore in the Pratapgarh and Vishwanath Ganj constituencies.
Highlighting the government’s development agenda, Yogi said Uttar Pradesh had made significant progress in infrastructure, healthcare and employment generation. He also claimed that previous governments had failed to provide jobs fairly, alleging that deserving candidates were denied opportunities. Reiterating the government’s commitment to inclusive development, he said the state had moved beyond its earlier image and was progressing under the vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas.”
