PORVORIM: President of India Droupadi Murmu today emphasized the need to further increase the participation rate of women in the work culture of Goa.
Murmu was addressing the Goa Legislative Assembly in the presence of Governor and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
“Goa’s cosmopolitan culture has a tradition of gender equality. He expressed happiness that more than 60 per cent participation of female students in higher education institutions of Goa,” said Murmu.
She further emphasized the need to further increase the participation rate of women in the work culture of Goa.
Murmu also emphasized the necessity of assigning equal importance to the economic, social, and environmental sectors to ensure sustainable mineral development.
She said that the government prioritizes environmental protection in the mining sector.
The rich forest cover is an invaluable natural resource of Goa and should be conserved, the President said.
“Dense forests in the Western Ghats region are the natural habitat of many wild animals and conservation of this natural heritage will further accelerate the sustainable development of Goa,” she said.
She said that apart from being a favourite tourist destination, Goa is also an important centre of education, trade and commerce, industry, technology and naval defence.
The President on this occasion recalled the contribution made by the people of Goa in various fields like sports, arts, public service, spirituality and literature.
Murmu said that the state of Goa will move forward by striking the right balance between modernity and tradition.
