New Delhi: Gyanendra Pratap Singh has urged personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force to carry out their duties without fear, assuring them that he would take full responsibility and accountability for decisions made in the bona fide discharge of their responsibilities.
Speaking at the CRPF’s investiture ceremony, Singh told personnel serving in both operational battalions and law and order units to continue performing their duties confidently. He said that as Director General, he would stand behind the decisions and actions taken by the force while carrying out official responsibilities.
The remarks come days after the Rapid Action Force faced criticism for using pellet guns while dispersing protesters during demonstrations in New Delhi over alleged examination paper leaks. The incident triggered allegations of excessive use of force by security personnel.
Earlier, Singh had said the CRPF would conduct a professional post event assessment of the operation, a standard procedure followed after major deployments. The review will examine the sequence of events, the circumstances that led to the use of pellet guns and whether the action was taken in accordance with established operational protocols.
The Rapid Action Force specialises in riot control, crowd management and handling civil unrest, and is deployed across the country whenever state authorities require assistance in maintaining law and order.
The CRPF, India’s largest central armed police force, operates nationwide in coordination with state police agencies. Apart from managing law and order situations, it has played a key role in counter insurgency operations in the Northeast and anti Maoist missions across central India. Its elite Commando Battalion for Resolute Action, commonly known as CoBRA, is trained in guerrilla and jungle warfare operations.
The force has frequently been deployed in high risk environments where operational decisions are made under intense pressure. Singh’s remarks were seen as a message of support to personnel while reaffirming the importance of adhering to established procedures and accountability standards during security operations.
