MAPUSA: Local authorities have reported that the water levels in the Valvanti, Par, and Kashti rivers have not risen above the danger mark, even though there was considerable rainfall throughout the State.
There has been a lot of rain in a few places, especially in the Bicholim and Sattari areas, but there isn’t currently a risk of flooding.
Reassurances regarding the current state of affairs were given by K P Naik, the Executive Engineer of the Water Resources Department (Bicholim division), who confirmed that all river levels in the region were under control.
“Everything is under control so far, and none of the rivers have reached the danger mark,” Naik said.
His remarks followed the Indian Meteorological Department’s (IMD) alert, which had put the State under a yellow alert because of expected heavy rains.
“Despite the yellow alert issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), there hasn’t been enough heavy rain in this area to warrant concern. According to Naik, “the required height is maintained without any threat at high tide, while the water level drops quite a bit during low tide.”
By preventing possible flood risks, this tidal fluctuation has assisted in maintaining safe water levels in the rivers.
Naik emphasized that there is no need to be concerned because all of the rivers in Sattari and Bicholim still have water levels that are within acceptable bounds.
