PONDA: A Ponda resident has allegedly lost ₹3.09 lakh after an unidentified person posing as a bank employee tricked him into sharing his credit card details under the pretext of redeeming accumulated reward points.
According to the complaint filed by Raju Phadte, the incident took place on August 3 between 3.07 pm and 3.44 pm in Ponda.
The complainant stated that he received a call from an unknown person who allegedly introduced himself as a bank employee and informed him that the reward points accumulated on his credit card could be redeemed and transferred to his bank account.
Believing the caller’s representations, Phadte visited a website as instructed and entered his credit card and personal details.
Soon after, an amount of ₹3,09,020 was allegedly debited from his credit cards without his knowledge or consent, causing him a financial loss of the same amount.
Further investigation into the alleged fraud is being conducted by PSI Nitesh Kankonkar of Mardol Police Station.
