DABOLIM: Dabolim Airport Director S V T Dhanamjaya Rao said that Dabolim Airport does not have any slump in air traffic.
He said that 175 slots have already been booked for winter season.
“Dabolim is being connected to Kalaburgi in Karnataka; flights to Nagpur will start in winter. We are expecting further improvement and further connections, international as well as charters,” he added.
He said that after commissioning of the new terminal building, the domestic flights will then be able to handle more number of flights while the dedicated international terminal will allow more international flights connections even during peak areas.
“It will also help to increase slots for more international flights without any issues,” he added
Following commencing of operations at Mopa International Airport and international flights shifting from Dabolim to Mopa, doubts have been raised about the quantum of traffic at Dabolim.
Dabolim Airport expansion work is expected to be completed by next May or June. After that the Dabolim Airport will be able to handle more flight connections even during peak hours, Rao informed.
Minister Mauvin Godinho said that he will meet Union Civil Aviation Minister and the Prime Minister in Delhi along with CM Sawant to ensure that flight operations at Dabolim continue unabated.
Godinho said, “Just because a few flights have moved to Mopa does not mean that Dabolim airport will close down and this is evident because the passenger footfall at Dabolim airport has not gone down at all.
