CANACONA: In a tragic mishap that snuffed a young life, a 20-year-old youth from Palolem making preparations for his 21st birthday celebrations a week later, died after his scooter hit a stationary truck at Gulem late Wednesday evening (at about 7.45 pm).
According to sources, Blesser Gomes, 20, an engineering student, while returning to his home (Palolem) from Margao riding a scooter bearing registration number GA-10 B-9461 had accidentally hit the rear-side of a Stationery Truck bearing registration number HR47 C2162 and along with scooter fell on the road (NH66) seriously injured and bleeding profusely. The incident took place on NH66 road at Gulem Bus Stop at around 7.45 pm late Wednesday evening.
An unconscious and badly injured Blesser Gomes however showing signs of life reportedly succumbed while being shifted to the hospital.
According to sources, the HR registration truck stationed on the highway, facing in Karwar direction had reportedly broken down and parked right on the narrow section of NH-66 road just opposite to Gulem Bus-Stop. Sources informed that the stationed truck blocking Canacona bound traffic turned the highway section into a single-lane narrow road-space hindering the smooth flow of highway traffic.
According to unconfirmed sources, Blesser riding his scooter towards Canacona was reportedly blinded by a series of vehicles coming in opposite directions, due to which the bike rider could not view the parked truck right on the road and on his proceeding track until he reached closeby and hit the truck on its rear side and fell down.
Sources close to the family informed Blesser was returning from Margao where he had gone to collect his newly stitched Suit for his 21st Birthday celebrations planned by the family on 11th Sept.
