New Delhi: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has intensified its crackdown on illegal constructions across the capital in the aftermath of the Malviya Nagar fire tragedy, demolishing 217 unauthorised structures and sealing 237 properties since June 4.
According to MCD’s Action Taken records, the civic body has also issued 330 show-cause notices for unauthorised construction, 151 sealing notices and passed 91 demolition orders as part of the ongoing enforcement drive.
Parallelly, the Revenue Department has been carrying out district-level inspections across Delhi. Between June 5 and June 15, officials inspected 773 properties and sites to identify violations related to unauthorised construction, fire safety norms and land use regulations. On June 15 alone, 29 locations were inspected across different districts.
West Delhi recorded the highest number of inspections during the period with 165 sites, followed by South Delhi with 93 inspections, North Delhi with 89, South-West Delhi with 70 and North-East Delhi with 68. Central, North-West, East, New Delhi and South-East districts also witnessed extensive inspections.
Inspection teams visited a range of properties, including guest houses, banquet halls, residential buildings and ongoing construction sites. Officials reported several violations, including the absence of fire no-objection certificates (NOCs), blocked emergency exits, unauthorised construction and commercial activities being carried out in residential premises.
South Delhi emerged as one of the most active districts in the enforcement drive, with authorities issuing notices for violations detected during inspections.
Officials said the crackdown is part of a broader city-wide survey aimed at identifying illegal residential and commercial constructions across all zones. The MCD has warned that strict action will continue under the provisions of the Master Plan for Delhi-2021, the Unified Building By-Laws, 2016 and the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act, 1957.
