ZUARINAGAR: A 50-year-old construction worker died after a wooden plank fitted to a construction lift on the third floor of a building fell on him at a construction site near MES College, Zuarinagar, on October 17, 2026.
The deceased has been identified as Huchhappa Sonakappa, a resident of Dabolim and originally from Karnataka.
According to police information, the incident occurred at around 8:40 am when the worker was walking inside the construction site for work. A wooden plank fitted to the construction lift on the third floor allegedly fell on him, causing serious head injuries.
He was subsequently shifted to the Sub-District Hospital (SDH) at Chicalim, where the duty doctor declared him brought dead.
Police received information from the casualty department of SDH Chicalim at around 3:51 pm on October 17. Following this, police visited the hospital and conducted an inquiry into the incident.
An inquest panchanama was conducted, and the body was preserved at South Goa District Hospital (SGDH), Margao, for further medico-legal formalities.
Further inquiry is being conducted by PSI Aditya Velip of Verna Police Station.
