**CANACONA:** A tourism stakeholder from Canacona has allegedly been cheated of ₹3.65 lakh by an unidentified person posing as a representative of the Goa Tourism Department under the pretext of renewing his tourism licences.
According to Canacona police, Sarvanand Konkonkar, a resident of Kindlem, Canacona, received WhatsApp messages from an unknown person between October 8 and 12, 2026. The accused allegedly impersonated a representative of the Goa Tourism Department and contacted Konkonkar through two different WhatsApp accounts regarding the renewal of his tourism licences.
Konkonkar, who reportedly jointly operates a couple of tourism huts and restaurants, believed the person to be genuine and followed the instructions received through the messages. He subsequently transferred a total of ₹3,65,000 through multiple Google Pay transactions.
He later realised that the person claiming to represent the Tourism Department was an impostor and that he had been cheated.
Canacona police have registered a case against the unidentified accused under Sections 318(4) and 319(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Further investigation is being conducted by PSI Babu Dessai of Canacona Police Station.
