OLD GOA: Since the SFX Exposition started on November 21, 6,92,336 pilgrims and devotees have visited the Basilica of Bom Jesus and See Cathedral.
To keep an eye on every movement, CCTV cameras have been mounted (The Goan, December 4).
As of December 5, 6,92,336 pilgrims and devotees have been to the church complex since November 21. In order to follow movements, six AI-based cameras that can detect faces have also been placed. According to PRO (SP) Rahul Gupta, these cameras helps in keeping track of a database of known pickpockets and chain snatchers.
The officer provided additional deployment statistics, stating that 359 cops are similarly positioned at the See Cathedral and 185 police officers and personnel are stationed at key places and at entry and exit points at the Basilica.
The church complex has been equipped with two rooftop observation posts, ten bunkers, and fifteen watchtowers. These security positions are manned by 167 uniformed police officers, with Quick Reaction teams stationed at key locations and Anti-Terrorist Squad commandos on 24-hour duty.
Ninety uniformed officers have been sent to churches, religious monuments, and parking lots as part of special teams created to combat the problems generated by hawkers, beggars, and unlicensed merchants.
“At the moment, 1,234 uniformed personnel are on duty, with an additional 320 staff deployed during peak days, including the feast day, which ended on December 3, holidays, weekends, and opening and closing days,” Gupta continued.
For round-the-clock security, 349 CCTV cameras have been placed at the Basilica, See Cathedral, parking lots, and fairgrounds. There are plans to raise this figure to 600.
