Aam Aadmi Party Navelim candidate Advocate Pratima Coutinho caught TMC leader Churchill Alemao’s daughters red handed while they attempted to distribute money in Housing Board Navelim.
Coutinho stated she received complaints from Navelim residents that the TMC leader Churchill Alemao’s daughters were handing out money on the election day and then asking voters to vote.
Coutinho condemned the practice of Churchill Alemao’s daughters handing out money before voting. She said, “This is one of the root causes of corruption. If candidates are offering money to cast a vote, then how can anyone expect these candidates to work for the betterment of the people?”.
Adding she said, “Candidates should compete on their merits and works. Nonetheless, Valanka Alemao has not contributed to the betterment of the Navelim people in the last five years. She only appeared in front of them in advance of the polls. It is for this reason Alemao family is using such tactics to sway voters”.
“Although there is a whole system in place to ensure free and fair elections, the Navelim police machinery and flying squads failed to do so. We informed the relevant officials about the incident, but no one showed up to intervene”, she said.
Further she said, “Upon seeing me running after them, they hid in the toilet of a Navelim resident’s house. When I attempted to enter the house, the police machinery prevented me from doing so. However, the police machinery did not take any action against them”.
