PERNEM: Chaos was witnessed at the meeting organised by the Agriculture Dept at Pernem Zonal Agriculture Office to take inputs on Goa agriculture policy.
As per information the authorities were not prepared to handle the large crowd that gathered to attend the meeting.
Many farmers who came to attend the meeting left the venue in protest.
“The arrangements including sitting arrangement, sound system etc were grossly mismanaged,” said farmers
Agriculture Department official said that they had kept the meeting at the ZAO based on response at other venues.
He added that the crowd at the meeting was more than that expected by the authorities and that led to the chaos.
The Agriculture department had decided to hold ‘public meetings’ in all the 12 talukas beginning with Dharbandora.
The move of the agriculture department to hold public meetings across all talukas comes after its effort to get panchayats to discuss the policy and come up with suggestions at the special gram sabhas on October 2 did not evoke the desired response.
Many of the gram sabhas did not discuss the policy at all and in some cases it was carried out as a formality in the agenda.
