PANAJI: All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) today held demonstrations against the “negligible” hike in minimum wages that affects 3 to 4 lakh workers in the state.
Goa government had issued notification on Aug 11 to hike the minimum wages by Rs 100 after the gap of 8 years from Rs 307 to Rs 407.
AITUC protested at Azad Maidan against the insignificant hike and demanded the withdrawal of what they called pro capitalist notification. Workers shouted slogans demanding minimum salary be increased to Rs 24,000 per month.
The protest aimed to address a range of concerns, chiefly focusing on the pressing issue of anti-worker policies. Workers expressed their dissatisfaction with policies including the arbitrary alteration of Minimum Wages and the prohibition of strikes within Pharma companies.
The AITUC-led event underscored the determination of workers to secure their rights and foster a more equitable work environment.”
