OLD GOA: Archdiocese of Goa and Daman ordained 12 new priests during a solemn ceremony held at the historic Se Cathedral on Wednesday evening.
The ordination ceremony took place at 3.30 pm and was led by Filipe Neri Cardinal Ferrao in the presence of Auxiliary Bishop Simao Fernandes and Agnelo Pinheiro.
The newly ordained priests are Cidroy Fernandes from Mandrem, Bevan Rebello from Galgibaga, Aaron Dsouza from Colvale, Nion Colaco from Nuvem, Canjoy Fernandes from Velim, Valancio Fernandes from Santa Cruz, Elidio Noronha from Salvador do Mundo, Lindon Sequeira and Dion Rodrigues from Navelim, Sanvy Cardoso from Utorda, Jofhuo Fernandes from Cansaulim and Aestrony Costa from Betalbatim.
In his homily, Cardinal Ferrao reflected on the role of a “Good Shepherd” and urged the priestly candidates to become the heart, hands and eyes of Jesus in their ministry. He stressed that priests should embody love, service and mercy while caring for the faithful entrusted to them.
He reminded the newly ordained priests that Jesus’ heart was filled with compassion for those in need, while His hands symbolised service to humanity. He also urged them to look upon others with mercy and understanding.
Following the ordination, the newly ordained priests were handed their appointment letters by Auxiliary Bishop Simao Fernandes and assigned to various parishes across Goa.
Fr. Cidroy Fernandes and Fr. Aestrony Costa were appointed Assistants to the Parish Priest at the Church of St. Jerome, Mapusa. Fr. Bevan Rebello was posted to the Church of Holy Cross, Quepem, while Fr. Aaron Dsouza was assigned to the Church of St. Joseph, Usgao.
Fr. Nion Colaco will serve at the Church of Our Lady of Piety, Piedade-Divar, Fr. Canjoy Fernandes at the Church of St. Alex, Calangute, and Fr. Valancio Fernandes at the Church of Mother of God, Saligao.
Fr. Elidio Noronha was appointed to the Church of Our Lady of Health, Sancoale, Fr. Lindon Sequeira to the Church of St. Michael, Taleigao, and Fr. Dion Rodrigues as Secretary of the Pastoral Institute, St. Pius X, Old Goa.
Fr. Sanvy Cardoso was assigned to the Church of St. Christopher, Tivim, while Fr. Jofhuo Fernandes will serve at the Church of St. Theresa of Jesus, Chaudi-Canacona.
Cardinal Ferrao congratulated all the newly ordained priests and conveyed his blessings and best wishes for their pastoral mission.
The ordination ceremony was compered by Fr. Snyter Pereira, while Fr. Candido Fernandes coordinated the liturgy. The choir during the Mass was led by Fr. Romeo Monteiro.
