CUNCOLIM: Cuncolim Police have registered a case after an Assolna resident was allegedly cheated of approximately ₹1.49 lakh by unknown persons who impersonated officials of the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) on WhatsApp.
According to the complaint filed by Antonio Dsilva, the incident took place on July 27, 2026, at around 4.59 pm in Assolna.
The accused allegedly contacted Dsilva through WhatsApp and impersonated GCZMA officials. Taking advantage of the complainant’s business-related limitations, the accused allegedly made representations that led him to believe the communication was genuine.
Believing the representations, Dsilva transferred approximately ₹1,49,500 through multiple online transactions to bank accounts allegedly belonging to the accused.
Police said the accused dishonestly induced the complainant to part with the money, resulting in the alleged cheating.
Further investigation is being conducted by PSI Aditya Sawant of Cuncolim Police Station.
