MARGAO: Former Union Minister Eduardo Faleiro on Thursday described late Anant alias Babu Narcinva Naik as one of Goa’s tallest leaders who dedicated his life to protecting the identity of the state.
Faleiro was speaking after giving the Muhurat Clap for the documentary “Loknayak” on late Babu Naik in the presence of former Headmaster and senior political leader M. K. Shaikh, businessman Ulhas Verlekar, and members of the Naik Shankhwalkar family on the occasion of Babu Naik’s Punyatithi.
The Muhurat function was held at Shree Damodar Sal, the ancestral home of the Naik Shankhwalkar family in Margao, marking the formal beginning of the commemorative documentary project.
Recalling his long association with the late leader, Faleiro said Babu Naik remained committed to safeguarding Goa’s identity and interests throughout his political career.
M. K. Shaikh said the documentary would serve as an important guide for future generations to understand the life, vision, and contributions of Babu Naik.
Ulhas Verlekar also shared memories of his close association with the late leader and congratulated the family for taking the initiative to document his legacy through film.
Family members present on the occasion included his sons Pandurang alias Bhai, Gaurish, and Vinay; daughter Shobha Mohan Pai Vernekar; daughters-in-law Sandhya, Seema, and Manjusha; grandsons Prabhav and Adil; granddaughter-in-law Sonal; and great-grandsons Anant Prabhav Naik and Aaddi Kripal Naik.
The documentary, titled “Loknayak,” is being produced by the Anant alias Babu Narcinva Naik Centenary Celebrations Committee and directed by Kishor Arjun. It is scheduled to be released during the Birth Centenary celebrations commencing on August 19, 2026.
