New Delhi: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have spoken out after a contentious moment overshadowed their defeat to Gujarat Titans (GT), with the team expressing strong doubts over a crucial catch decision that turned the game’s momentum.
The incident occurred during the dismissal of RCB captain Rajat Patidar, when Gujarat’s Jason Holder completed a low catch that was sent upstairs for review. After examination, the third umpire ruled it a clean take, but the decision did not sit well with the RCB camp. Star batter Virat Kohli was visibly upset, even engaging in a heated discussion with an official near the boundary line.
Following the match, senior pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar shared the team’s perspective, stating that replays shown on the stadium screen suggested the ball may have made contact with the ground before being secured. He indicated that players were hoping for a more thorough review, with additional camera angles considered before the final verdict was delivered.
Bhuvneshwar acknowledged that he did not have complete clarity on the communication between on-field and third umpires, but maintained that from what was visible, the catch appeared questionable. The moment added to RCB’s frustration on a day when little else went in their favour.
Putting the controversy aside, the match itself saw a rare batting struggle for Bengaluru. Despite a steady start from Kohli, the team was bowled out for 155, a total that proved insufficient. Gujarat Titans chased down the target comfortably, finishing the game with more than four overs remaining.
Reflecting on the loss, Bhuvneshwar described it as an off day rather than a major concern. He noted that in a long tournament, consistency in every match is difficult to maintain. While RCB’s batting unit has delivered strong performances throughout the season, this particular outing fell short, leaving the bowlers with a challenging task of defending a below-par score.
