Panaji: The organizers of ‘Sunburn’ have announced that they will be organizing ‘Sunburn 2024’ in South Goa this year without seeking the government’s permission. Remarkably, they have already started selling tickets. Festivals like ‘EDM’ and ‘Sunburn’, which lead the youth towards substance abuse and addiction, should not be permitted not only in South Goa but anywhere in the entire state of Goa. The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti has demanded that Goa be made ‘EDM-free’ and that the cultural identity of Goa be preserved.
This demand was made by submitting a memorandum to Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant. The delegation of the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti comprised Ramdas Sawaiverekar of the ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ organization, Yuvraj Gaonkar of the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti and Mrs. Shubha Sawant of the Sanatan Sanstha.
Since the inception of ‘Sunburn’ in Goa, the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti has been opposing its organization. Last year, nature lovers and cultural enthusiasts from North Goa protested against this festival, and at that time, Sunburn owner Singh had declared that it would be their last festival. However, this year, they announced the organization of ‘Sunburn’ in South Goa and started selling tickets, deceiving the people of Goa.
The loud electronic dance music that plays in many pubs and restaurant clubs along the coast of Goa also faces local opposition due to the noise pollution it causes to nearby residents. The High Court has taken note of this. The government should also ban this event.
