PANAJI: The Bombay High Court at Goa today adjourned the hearing in the Banastarim fatal accident to Thursday following request from the crime branch, who is currently recording Meghana Sawardekar’s statement before the Magistrate.
The court was hearing the bail application of accuse Paresh Sawardekar, who is in Judicial custody at Colvale jail.
The accused had moved the High Court seeking urgent hearing of his bail matter. The accident on the Banastari bridge caused due to rash and negligent drunken driving had claimed three lives.
Ponda Sessions Court has rescheduled the anticipatory bail plea hearing for Meghana Paresh Sawardekar to August 23. Notably, the court has extended the interim protection from arrest granted to Meghana, which will remain in effect until the upcoming hearing.
The Banastarim accident suspect, Shripad alias Paresh Sawardekar, was placed under 14-day judicial custody following a directive from the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) in Ponda.
Following his arrest shortly after the accident, Paresh had initially been granted two days of police custody. Subsequently, the JMFC extended this custody by an additional five days, and on Monday, it was extended by another day. Meanwhile, Paresh had initiated a bail application before the High Court of Bombay at Goa.
