PANAJI: The state government today has said that it will begin installation of digital fare meters on tourist taxis from May 20 in phase manner.
The government has also clarified that no permits will be renewed without fitment of digital meters.
“No permits shall be renewed without fitment of digital meters w.e.f. 20/05/2021 Taxi owner must carry out fitment of digital meter of specified type. through Authorised vendor,” said Transport Director
He further said In case of failure to fit specified type of digital meters within the stipulated time slot shown, the permit of defaulting vehicle shall automatically stand cancelled without further notice.
As per the notification, the total cost of digital meter at the time of installation including the digital meter integrated with Automotive Tracking device, emergency system and printer.
“The fitment will come with one year free maintenance and one year data and online monitoring charges including GST is Rs.11,234/-.,” the order states.
Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho had said the state government has amended Section 140 of the Goa Motor Vehicles Rules-1991, wherein every motor cab is to be fitted with a digital fare meter along with a printer, Global Positioning System (GPS), and a panic button.
