PONDA: Around 22 local fish vendors, along with RG leader Rahul Naik today protested at Borim, demanding Borim Panchayat take action against migrant fish vendors who are eating the business of local fish vendors.
Rahul Naik said that around 22 local fish vendors have been conducting fish selling business for many decades through cycles and bikes.
However, they suddenly noticed that some migrant vendors had been selling fish on bikes and four-wheelers for the past year. Now, the number of migrant fish vendors has increased, so they have no customers as these migrants are selling fish door to door, depriving livelihood of local fish vendors.
The local fish vendors said We don’t know from where they are coming, but they can be seen moving with bikes along with fish crates in Panchayat jurisdiction.
They questioned if migrants started eating business where the Goans would go to conduct business.
Rahul Naik, the secretary of Panchayat, had accepted the memorandum and
assured us to discuss the issue in the body meeting and find out a suitable solution.
