CANACONA – A mega celebration of Tiranga Mahotsav as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav on the completion of 75 years of Independence of the Nation is scheduled for celebration on Saturday (13th Aug) in Canacona.
GLA Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar informed significant celebrations are planned at the three main state borders at Patradevi, Castlerock and Polem. ‘The responsibility of Polem is with Canconcars ‘, Tawadkar said.
The Tiranga Mahotsav is jointly celebrated by the Directorate of Higher Education in association with Shree Mallikarjun and Chetan Manju Desai College and Dy. Collector (Canacona), supported by the Directorate of Education and Taluka Level Steering Committee(TLSC).
Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar, flanked by Canacona Dy Collector Ramesh Gaonkar and Shree Mallikarjun College Principal and program Canacona in charge Dr Manoj Kamat, informed as part of nation-wide Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, our State is also engrossed in the same euphoria and Canacona too will be a part of patriotic celebration. ‘It is equally important that the ‘desh-bhakti’ is generated amongst all the citizens of our country, and the citizens become responsible citizens.
According to organisers, more than 2000 college and different schools students will participate in the various programs, some of which are scheduled simultaneously from Polem to Palolem in Canacona. There are about 8-10 living freedom fighters from Canacona, some living elsewhere in the country, while others movements are limited due to old age, but still organisers expect a few to be part of Tiranga Mahotsav.
A simultaneous program scheduled for coming Saturday includes a visit to ancient places at Angadi -Majali (Karwar district of neighbouring Karnataka) where once ‘Azad Gomantak Dal’ and Goa National Congress’ fought the foreign rulers (a torch will be flamed at Angadi), where more than 100 students will trek from Majali Checkpost to Polem checkpost.
Briefing media Dr Kamat informed Speaker Tawadkar would welcome the torch-bearing contingent, followed by lighting of Torch at Polem and patriotic songs by School students, while in attendance of Police Band, a March past with Slogans, Placards, Street -play and Run for Tiranga (running race competition).
Visits to the Freedom Fighters Memorials at Maxem, Chaudi (Hutatma Chauk), Poinguinim (Alfred Alfonso Memorial), besides visit to the residence of late Freedom Fighters Pundalik Gaitonde(Palolem),: trek from Palolem to Chaudi, Walkathon from Maxem to Poinguinim, Chaudi to Mamlatdar office.
The main program will be held at Shri Shradhanand Vidyalaya Painginim, where Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar will be the chief guest, presided over by Principal Dr Manoj Kamat, will also be addressed by Dy Collector Ramesh Gaonkar, Keynote Speaker Sandesh Prabhudessai, Sahitya Akademi winner Konkani writer Devidas Kadam and others will be present.
