New Delhi: Iran has reaffirmed that the strategically significant Chabahar Port project remains firmly on track despite ongoing sanctions, with its envoy to India emphasizing steady progress and long term regional benefits. The development of the port, seen as a crucial gateway for India’s access to Central Asia and Afghanistan, continues without interruption, alongside rapid advancement of supporting infrastructure.
The envoy highlighted that the Chabahar Zahedan railway link is nearing completion, with around 90 percent of the work already finished. Once operational, it will connect the port to Iran’s national railway network, strengthening trade corridors and boosting regional connectivity. Additional improvements in public infrastructure, including healthcare facilities and hospitality projects, are also underway to transform the region into a sustainable economic hub.
Addressing concerns over maritime security, Iran assured that vessels from friendly nations, including India, can safely navigate the Strait of Hormuz. The envoy stated that Iran remains committed to international maritime norms and has ensured safe passage for Indian ships, particularly those linked to vital energy supplies. Existing guidelines for transit are being maintained to ensure orderly movement without disruptions.
On the broader geopolitical situation, Iran indicated its openness to dialogue with the United States but stressed that it seeks a stable and lasting peace rather than repeated cycles of conflict and temporary ceasefires. The country underscored its right to peaceful nuclear energy under global agreements and reiterated that the removal of sanctions remains a key condition for any meaningful progress in negotiations.
The envoy also dismissed claims suggesting economic or political instability in Iran, stating that the nation remains prepared for prolonged challenges. He added that diplomatic initiatives aimed at easing tensions are welcome, provided they respect Iran’s sovereignty and national interests.
Overall, Iran’s stance reflects a dual focus on maintaining strategic partnerships, particularly with India, while navigating complex regional dynamics through a combination of resilience and continued diplomatic engagement.
